  1. Your costs

For an estimate of your out-of-pocket costs, please contact us on:

T: 08 8139 0600

E: bookings@capricornia.online

The fees for anaesthesia are separate from fees charged by your surgeon, the hospital where you have your procedure and any costs from your health fund.

The complexity and duration of your procedure determines the fees charged. However, Government legislation and private insurance company regulations prevent Australian patients from insuring against the full cost of medical fees. In addition to this, the Commonwealth Government has not indexed Medicare rebates adequately since their inception. As a consequence, there will usually be an out-of-pocket expense or "gap".

  1. Fasting

If you have been given instructions from your surgeon about fasting before surgery (including 'bowel prep'), please follow those instructions.

Otherwise, please:

  1. Fast from all food for 6 hours before admission to hospital. You can continue to drink water until 2 hours before your admission time.

  2. 2 hours before admission to hospital, fast from ALL food and water

For example, if your admission time is 8am:

  • stop food at/before 2am

  • stop water at/before 6am

Fasting is vitally important. If you don’t fast, you’re at risk of breathing in your stomach contents during your procedure, which can be fatal. If you’re not adequately fasted, we may need to delay, postpone or even cancel your procedure for your own safety.

  1. Your medications

If you are taking medications for diabetes or medications to thin the blood, please see the separate information on this website.

Otherwise, it is important to continue most medications up to the time of your procedure.

It is especially important to continue medications for:

  • blood pressure, angina, heart meds

  • reflux, antibiotics

If you are fasting, you can still take your medications with a small sip of water.

Back to the checklist

  1. Diabetes medications

It often important to modify your diabetic medication because you will be fasting before your procedure.

If your surgeon has already given you information about how to manage your diabetic medication, please follow those instructions.

Otherwise, contact us for a plan to manage your diabetes at: bookings@capricornia.online

Back to the checklist

  1. Blood thinning meds

If you have been given instructions from your surgeon about your blood thinning medication before surgery, please follow those instructions.
